Twitter Taste LIVE took over the "Twitterverse" once again last night to taste the wines of Hugel et Fils along with Etienne Hugel "tweeting" from his home in Alsace and countless bloggers around the world.
My head is pounding and my eye's are adjusting from staring at three PC screens, holding a skype call to Alsace, IM'ing with our web guy, holding an in-store tasting, streaming live and of course tweeting all at the same time, but I can say that the event last night was amazing! Beyond the great wines, there are two items of note from last nights event.
1. The level of participation from the wine blogging community partners was simply outstanding. These folks from all over the world continue to amaze me with their outstanding tasting notes, well thought out questions and above all help with putting the whole event together. These folks are on the cutting edge of not just the wine business but also the tech world, and we can't thank them enough for partnering with us.
2. Twitter Taste LIVE goes international! A strange thing began to happen a few days ago, I began getting "tweets' from all over the world asking about the event. For this event we expanded from our international outpost with @catavino and @gabriellaopaz in Spain to include a huge crowd in the UK (Click for pics). France, Germany, Poland, Puerto Rico, China, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Chile, and yes twitterheads from all over the U.S also joined in the fun.
Stay tuned to www.binendswine.com and www.twittertastelive.com for details on our September event coming VERY soon!
Here is a sampling of some of the Tweets of the night:
-binendswine: The idea came to me travelling with Gerard Jaboulet in Denver CO back in 1992
-duanepem: @binendswine I'm REALLY diggin' the old-school nose on thise Gentil...
-RemyCharest: @binendswine Bienvenue à la dégustation en direct, Étienne Hugel. I've been a fan of Gentil for many years.
-binendswine: EH We always had this tradition of blends in Alsace so not to much marketing effort was needed
-RichardPF: @binendswine I like the idea of the blend of the different grapes, and it certainly seems to work well with this wine.
-duanepem: @binendswine A no-braind IMO for 10bux.. On my WEP scale, this is easily a 100% wine..http://tinyurl.com/6bpcxw
-binendswine: @Sonadora EH refreshing is what this Gentil should first be, a quality that soooo many wines don't achieve nowadays
-binendswine: EH For people new to Alsace Pinot Blanc is great intro. Not overly flowery and just like good unoaked Chardonnay... made of grapes only !
-1WineDude: @binendswine Good comparison to the unoaked Chard - the purity of the fruit is very similar.
-winecast: @binendswine based on the gentil, i think you have captured the essence of the fruit... moving to the pinot blanc now...
-saltlinestudio: @binendswine Oyster season is coming up on Cape Cod and I think this wine would be very nice come Sept.
-RemyCharest: @binendswine Hugel Gewurz is textbook Gewurz for me (for me formidaaable). Roses, expansive sweet nose, balanced on the palate. Yummy
-binendswine: EH Small joke for free from an undisclosed fwine riend of mine, "I never sleep with a tie, except when I am in Bangkok" ;-)
-zensolo: bonsoir a tous...saludos desde Puerto Rico. Merci millions a Étienne & binendswine for this event!
-binendswine: EH THat Riesling Jubilee is a real Jewel, from our top vineyards in GC Schoenenbourg, it will last for decades and grow in complexity
-binendswine: EH Do give some aeration to Riesling Jubilee, it will grow in the glass for a good hour, don't rush it ot air decant and hour in advance
- Catavino: @binendswine been drinking it for 3 hrs...and I want more...so sad Spain is not the place to buy it! :(
-binendswine: @dalecruse EH Riesling is typically the last varietal picked, so 3 to 4 weeks after harvest start
-Kirrihill: @binendswine How old are the 'Jubilee' vines Etienne? Does the wine improve the older the vines are?
-dalecruse: @binendswine EH Haven't you heard? There are troops amassed at the border. Expect a knock at your door.
-winecast: @binendswine / EH i think this '04 will be great in 2014... how long have you cellared your riesling? do you have library wines available?
