Today's Three-Pack, the 2009 Steele Chardonnay "Cuvée Steele" California, is Steele's flagship wine and is a demonstration of his genius in blending grapes from different sites. This particular cuvée has juice from Santa Maria Valley, Carneros in Sonoma and Mendocino.
The wine is a brilliant and seamless fusion of terroirs; it exhibits excellent depth of flavor and is superbly well-balanced. The Santa Maria vineyards add a tropical fruit character to the wine, giving flavors and aromas of mango, pineapple, and papaya. The Sonoma vineyards attribute citrus character and acidity. The Mendocino vineyards add flavors of baked apples and cinnamon. Fermentation in oak barrels gives the wine a rich, opulent texture.
