Monte Antico is a proprietary label for highly regarded importer Neil Empson and consistently produces one of the best values in all of Italy.
Sourced from the rocky hillside vineyards in the heart of Tuscany, this blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot is a $25 Chianti wrapped in a $12 bottle! While the name Chianti does not appear on the label, there is no mistaking where this is from. This is truly Italian.
Aged for 12 months in older barrels, the Sangiovese takes the lead in flavor showcasing a medium to full bodied red driven by an impeccable balance of black cherry and plum fruit, earth, leather and dried herbs. Delicious on it's own, the wine really struts its stuff when paired with a rich pasta, risotto of red meat.
