In the late 19th century, Emile Bouchon, a young man from a winemaking family in Bordeaux, came up with a serious case of wanderlust. Longing to make a his mark on the world in an exotic land, he bravely crossed a couple of ponds and settled in Chile. He spent a few years working for the then-famous Vigouroux Vineyard, where he familiarized himself with his new terroir while making a name for himself in the burgeoning Chilean wine industry with his enological expertise. After purchasing land in the Maule Valley, he established a winery in his name, where, to this day, his family melds Old-World tradition with New World innovation in the craftsmanship of fruit-and-terroir-driven wines. Today's Six-Pack Special, the 2012 J. Bouchon Canto Sur Proprietary Red Blend, is a brilliant homage to Emile - and the most delicious $8 bottle of wine you will have all day!
This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère and 20% Merlot is just lightly oaked to add depth and dimension while letting the rich, ripe fruit take center stage. "Fresh dark berry and cherry aromas are complicated by spice cake and floral nuances. The palate offers spicy blackberry and cherry flavors enlivened by suggestions of cracked pepper and violet. The bright, spice-accented finish features fine-grained tannins and a late floral kick." - 89 points, Vinous, February 2014
Not too shabby for $8, amiright?
