YOU ASKED; WE ANSWERED! We received so much positive feedback about last week's Buy the Pair that we figured we had better go back to our supplier and see if we could restock before someone else scooped it up. Lucky for us (and for you!), we are able to add a few cases to our allocation. While it lasts, take this opportunity to populate your wine cellar with the fruits of one of Tuscany's most prolific producers; make the 2015 Podere Giodo Toscana Rosso IGT YOURS!

Carlo Ferrini has spent the better part of the last three decades establishing a reputation as one of the greatest winemaker/consultants in Italy, if not the world. After cutting his teeth working for the Consorzio of Chianti Classico, Carlo began to act as consulting agronomist for some of the most famous estates in Tuscany: Barone Ricasoli, Poliziano, Mazzei, Brancaia, Petrolo, and Casanova di Neri, to name a few.

Carlo espouses the belief that great wines are made in the vineyard. Many winemakers talk this game, but Carlo walks the walk, as evidenced by the meticulous care he lavishes on all of the vines under his care. His efforts have paid off in spades: Back in the mid-aughts, Casanova di Neri's Brunellos were regularly receiving ratings of between 90-94 points. Within a couple of years the quality of his Brunellos skyrocketed and the critics responded with reviews ranging from 96-100 points. In 2008, Carlo was named "Winemaker of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

Since then, Carlo has acquired his own small vineyard in Montalcino. Podere Giodo is a wonderful estate that Carlo calls his own but is small enough not to cause ripples within his small portfolio of consulting projects. According to the regulations of the Consorzio for Brunello di Montalcino, Podere Giodo is only allowed to bottle 250 cases of Brunello di Montalcino; anything else over and above has to be declassified and bottled as Toscana Rosso IGT. So here we are, with his blockbuster, 97-point beauty. Check out the press!

97 points, James Suckling, August 28. 2017
"This is a linear and dense red with blackberry, black cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Full body, tight and powerful. This is so focused and long. I love the fresh acidity and solid, fruit-coated tannins. A new wine from Carlo Ferrini's tiny Brunello estate. Will drink better in 2020."

We found this wine to be drinking beautifully with a good decanting, but it will flourish with a few years in the cellar. If you love Tuscan treasures the way that we do, you will want to make it yours ASAP. Cheers!
