Chiantis are the heart and soul of Tuscan wine production. These Sangiovese-based wines, named after the region from which they are made, have a history with the region that dates back centuries and display a synergy that can only be achieved with such a long union between grape and terroir. Indeed, a bottle of Chianti is a beautiful little piece of Italian history.

Chianti Classicos are wines that come from a sub-region spanning about 100 square miles between Florence and Siena. They are widely considered to be the most beautifully-crafted wines from the entire Chianti Zone and are pretty well-priced relative to some other Tuscan offerings. The price-to-quality ratio is always good, but it is FABULOUS with today's Six-Pack Special, the 2014 Riecine Chianti Classico.

The Riecine Winery has roots going back to the 12th century and was formerly a parcel of the legendary Badia a Coltibuono property. Located in the commune of Gaiole, in the heart of the Chianti region between Florence and Siena, the winery produced its first modern vintage in 1975. Organic and biodynamic practices have been implemented since 1991; Riecine's non-interventionist winemaking philosophy, which honors the beautiful terroir of the region, has resulted in stellar wines year after year that have earned the winery a loyal following of Italian wine lovers. Today's wine is beautifully-crafted, classic Chianti to the core.

The 2014 Riecine Chianti Classico is the flagship of the winery's portfolio. Made from 100% Sangiovese and aged for 18 months in a combination of cement tanks, wooded casks and seasoned oak barrels, it is elegant and complex, with a nose of red fruits and rose petals and a medium-bodied palate of red cherries, dried strawberries and fine herbs. It is velvety-smooth on the mid-palate and finishes long, with vibrant acidity. Great on its own, it is an almost perfect wine to have on hand to match just about anything from beef to chicken to pasta and pizza and so much more. Not bad for $14.40 per bottle, amiright? CHEERS!
