We believe that it is always best to ring in the New Year or just about any special occasion with a great bottle of bubbles that makes a big, bold statement. Today's Once Daily Feature makes a very big statement... and it's not just the beautiful magnum bottle in which the wine is packaged. Gramona is one of the "Grand Marques" of Cava - the Krug or Bollinger of Cava, if you will. The commitment to heritage, tradition, and quality here is unequaled. This is a wine that will turn heads when you present it, raise eyebrows as it is poured into the glass, and bring smiles to faces as it is sipped for the first time.

Let's take a closer look at the story behind Gramona;

Gramona’s history is long and storied, with the property being a quality reference point in the Penedès for decades. The name "Gramona" began to be put on bottles of “Cava Champagne” in 1921. Today the house is one of the few remaining family-owned estates in the region, most having been hoovered up by large companies in the last half century. At Gramona time is never an issue. The wines receive perhaps the longest average aging than any other Cava and are never released until they are perfectly mature. Eighty-six percent of the cavas produced in the zone are released after 9 months, while at Gramona cavas are aged a minimum of 30 months. The Gramona vineyards organically, are in the process of converting to biodynamics, and are reducing their carbon footprint by using geothermic energy and recycling all the water used at the estate. (importer notes)

The Gramona Imperial Gran Reserva Brut Cava is crafted from hand harvested, certified organic Xarel-lo, Macabeo. and Chardonnay grapes grown from 35-50 year old vines located in the town of San Sadurní d'Anoia in the region of Peñedes. The wine is initially fermented in stainless steel tank and allowed to rest for six months prior to undergoing its secondary fermentation in bottle. The wine is then aged for a minimum of 36 months prior to disgorgement and being finished with an 8g/L dosage.

Considering all of the effort and money that goes into crafting this wine, it is simply amazing that you can enjoy the 2013 Gramona Imperial Gran Reserva Brut Cava for just $52 a magnum. You could easily spend 50% more than this on a 750ml bottle of big name producer Champagne... and this wine will taste BETTER!!  We special ordered these magnums this past Spring to have them available for you this holiday season. We have a limited supply available - and when they are gone, that will be it until Gramona prepares to bottle another vintage. Make sure to grab yourself a magnum for this New Year's Eve and then perhaps a few more for other special occasions through 2018 and beyond. You will be very happy that you did. CHEERS!!
