See those big stones in the picture above? Known as galets, they blanket much of the vineyard land in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Composed largely of quartzite, they retain moisture in the soil during the hot, dry summer months and capture the sun's heat, releasing it at night to hasten the ripening of the grapes. They are the secret to the magnificent success of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, which beautifully juxtapose opulence and elegance, fruit-driven characters with minerally complexity, age-worthiness and early drinkability. It is no surprise that Châteauneuf-du-Papes are among the most sought after wines in the world among serious aficionados, but you don't have to be a collector to enjoy them. We scour the market to find these beauties at prices that make it easier on everyone's wallet. Fall in love with these gorgeous wines and start with today's Buy the Pair, the 2015 Clos Saint Antonin Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Clos Saint Antonin is the newly-acquired domain by the Sabon family of the famed Domaine de la Janasse. 15 acres are under vine, with 2 in the AOC of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 2015 is the inaugural vintage of the Clos Saint Antonin CdP and it is a superb effort. It is sourced entirely from the famed La Clau vineyard, which boasts one of the highest elevations in the AOC and rich soil layered with alluvial deposits, limestone, silica, and red clay known as molasse - all topped with those famous galets. The legendary Mistral winds sweep away any moisture in the air, protecting the vines from rot.

Crafted from 100% Grenache, unfiltered and unfined, today's wine is a bountiful yet polished expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Check out the press!

94 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The gem of the collection is the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape. Selected from two lots that used to go into Domaine de la Janasse's bottling, this is redolent of ripe berries and stone fruit, with a lush, silky, nearly weightless feel on the palate. It's a lovely example of the delicate, elegant style of Grenache increasingly being produced from Châteauneuf's sandy soils. Aged in a combination of concrete vats and foudres, it should drink well for 10 years or more." (October 31, 2017, Issue #233)

91-93 points, Vinous
"Highly expressive cherry and black raspberry aromas are complicated by floral and Asian spice nuances. Sappy, sweet and expansive on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering juicy, densely packed red and blue fruit flavors that turn sweeter and more lively as the wine opens up. Shows a subtle lavender pastille quality on the persistent, penetrating finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins." (March 2017)
