Vintage Ports are sublime treats rarely enjoyed by many wine lovers. With costs upwards of $50 per bottle, they are priced well beyond most budgets. What's an adventurous yet cost-conscious wine lover to do? Pull the trigger on today's Three-Pack Special, the 2000 Quinta de Ventozelo Vintage Port, and enjoy a stunner for less than half its full retail price!

Vintage Port is the best and rarest of Ports. While the bulk of Port production is non-vintage, Vintage Port is only made in years when the harvest is considered good enough for there to be a declared vintage year. Vintage Ports are made only with grapes from their declared vintages and account for about 2% of total production.

Vintage Ports may be aged in barrels or stainless steel for a maximum of two and a half years before bottling, and generally, require another ten to forty years of aging in the bottle before reaching what is considered a proper drinking age. Since they are potentially aged in cask for only a short time, they retain their dark ruby color and fresh fruit flavors. Particularly fine Vintage Ports can continue to gain complexity and drink wonderfully for many decades after they were bottled. It is not uncommon for 19th-century bottles to still be in perfect condition for consumption (wikipedia). Pretty great, right?

Today's ridiculously good offer came to us because of a series of occurrences in the industry that left this wine without an importer. The distributor needed to make room for the arrival of new products and was motivated to find it a home. We swooped in, made an offer, and now we have a $60 Vintage Port that's YOURS for $24 per bottle.

The deets: The Quinta de Ventozelo 2000 Vintage Port is a blend of Touriga Naçional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão fermented in traditional lagares at the Quinta. Grapes are foot-crushed, without de-stemming: grape skins and stems are mixed with the must to extract the maximum amount of aromas, color, and flavors. When the ideal residual sugar levels are achieved, the young wine is fortified by adding 100% natural grape brandy, stopping the alcoholic fermentation and preserving the grapes' natural sugars. Aged in stainless steel tanks for 2 years to preserve the maximum purity of the wine, it is bottled without filtration at the Quinta. (winery notes)

The 2000 Quinta de Ventozelo Vintage Port is rich and creamy-textured, with sweet cassis and blackberry fruit characters accented by beautifully integrated notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, cedar, and spice as well as very subtle notes of flowers and herbs. It is drinking beautifully now but will continue to develop with another 10-15 years of cellar aging.

Don't miss out on this chance to own a stellar cellar dweller for a mere pittance. CHEERS!
