The AOC of Margaux in Haut-Médoc, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, is the home to some of the world's most renowned Cabernet-based wines. Its mineral-rich, rocky, well-drained soils, as well as its centuries-long winemaking history, bring forth wines that are unsurpassed in their complexity and ability to seamlessly integrate power with elegance. Firmly-structured, these wines possess abundant fruit interwoven with mineral tones and other secondary flavors. They possess a universal appeal that endears them to the palates of wine newbies as well as aficionados. Sounds great - and expensive, right? Although there are some pretty heavy hitters in Margaux, there are also plenty of Châteaux whose wines won't set you back a mortgage payment. Enter today's Once Daily, the 2014 Château Angludet Margaux Magnum. You CAN stock your cellar with Margaux without going broke!

Owned by the Sichel family since1961, Château Angludet is situated at the heart of the prestigious appellation of Margaux and surrounded by Cru Classé properties. (The estate would almost certainly have been included in the famous 1855 Classification, had the property not been broken up as part of an inheritance settlement.) Current caretaker Benjamin Sichel's constant quest for quality is reflected in his policy of drastically limiting the yield of each vine plant. Year after year, he achieves the highest expression of this exceptional terroir in every glass. Château Angludet's wines enjoy a worldwide reputation for their elegance, aromatic finesse, and their exceptional aging potential. (importer notes)

Today's offer is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot sourced from vines with an average age of 25 years. Traditional vinification was carried out in cement vats, after which the wine was oak-aged for 12 months (33% new). The finished wine is fined and lightly filtered before bottling. Its unctuous fruit characters and vibrant acidity make it lushly-textured yet light on its feet. It is loaded with black currants and blackberries, with hints of pencil lead and savory herbs. Supple tannins add dimension and give the wine the legs needed for cellar-aging.

91 points, James Suckling
"The combination of ripe blackberry fruit and a hint of something floral is immediately appealing, and the dry tannins are quite discreet, making this solid wine easy to enjoy right away. But it will improve with age." (February 14, 2017)

91 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"This is a wine that brings out all the bright fruit of the vintage. It has classic black-currant flavors and crisp acidity. The tannins are a firm supporting act to this wine that will develop well over the medium term." (February 1, 2017)

The 2014 Château Angludet Magnum will drink very well now with a bit of decanting and will evolve beautifully over the next 5-15 years. Buy one for now and one for the cellar. You will be glad you did. CHEERS!
