For over 375 years, the name Thanisch has been synonymous with luxurious white wines from the Mosel. The estate, which consists of 40 acres of top-notch, steep slope riesling sites along the Mosel River, gained its international reputation in the middle of the 19th century under the ownership of Dr. Hugo Thanisch. From that time on, Thanisch wines have garnered numerous high ratings from the press and legions of fans, and its most prestigious cuvées have sold in auction houses for thousands of dollars per bottle.*

Today's wine is sourced from the Berncasteler Doctor vineyard located behind the village of Bernkastel, one of the most famous vineyards in Germany. This extremely steep site with a south-southwest orientation consists of medium deep, stony loamy weathered argillaceous schist. The wine underwent a cool, slow fermentation in stainless steel with natural yeasts in order to preserve the pure expression of terroir and fruit characters.*
