PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Recognized in 2006 as an Appellation, the AOC Orléans is located south of the Loire river, between Orléans and Sologne. Blanc d'Orléans is made from a single grape variety, Chardonnay. This grape variety offers a particular finesse. The grapes are picked at good maturity to obtain fresh dry white wines with aromas of white flowers.

The Clos Saint Fiacre estate is a family affair, not surprising given that the family has roots in wine at least back to 1635. Benedicte Montigny-Piel and her husband Hubert Piel, along with Benedicte’s uncle Jacky Montigny, took over the estate in 2001, following the death of Benedicte’s father Daniel Montigny. Daniel had long worked to obtain official recognition of the Orléans vineyard, which finally happened in 2006 with the creation of the AOCs Orléans and Orléans-Cléry.

Today, Uncle Jacky works in the vines, Hubert in both the vines and cellar, and Benedicte takes care of sales and administration. Covering around 20 hectares in Mareau aux Près, a village just west of Orléans, the estate has some of the finest parcels in both appellations. Notable is the high percentage of Pinot Meunier in the red wines. The soils are limestone-clay and sandy gravel over limestone subsoils.
Tasting note from the winery: Aromas of white flowers. The mouth is generous with a mineral finish.
