PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Proprietor Roberto Giannelli has been 100% committed to producing one of the finest Brunellos possible via a non-interventionalist approach, high-density plantings, and ultra-rigorous green harvesting during the growing season. He is extremely passionate and hellbent on making the best wines possible.  He only plants Sangiovese Grosso (the “Brunello” grape).

Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate had the following to say about Roberto and his efforts: “San Filippo is home to some of the best boutique Brunello today… The quality of the product has made quantum leaps since I first tasted the wines more than a decade ago… Proprietor Roberto Giannelli farms on mostly clay soils and his wines proudly show the extra structure and intensity that is common in this eastern corner of the appellation.”

What’s really made the estate soar has been its prime location within Montalcino. San Filippo consists of four vineyard sites: La Storta (north-east exposure), Le Raffiche (north exposure), Le Lucére (north-east exposure) and La Smarrita (south-west exposure). Le Lucére, in particular, is located within Brunello's "Grand Cru" Central Zone. This particular bottling of Brunello di Montalcino has been crafted from a selection of barrels from each of Roberto's four vineyard sites.

Roberto’s wines are great values, but we are not sure how long that will last with the great ratings he’s been getting recently!
